Altering the notifications

August 28th, 2011
@scrivna Hi Ross. I was wondering if there was any chance that a slight modification could be done to the notifications facility? I like the fact that I'm told when people have commented on a photo but there have been occasions when I've uploaded a few shots at once and get comments from several people about several different shots. Would it be possible to have a system similar to fb where you're notified that e.g. 5 people have commented on your photo 'rainbow'? I hope that makes sense. I tend to flit back and forth just to make sure I don't miss any comments and occasionally, if I gain a new follower for instance, I'll get a comment on an older shot. Like I said, I don't know if this is possible but I'd appreciate it if you could answer to let me know one way or another. Thankyou :o) xx

Lisa, I only check the comments on my notifications and the photos through e-mail, which tells you which photos are being checked

@shanne I get them via email as well Shanne but tend not to check my emails as often. I come on 365 every day so if notifications can be grouped together it would save me some time :o) xx

I'm backing you up on this one Lisa! :-) It would be great if that would be possible instead of "running back and forth" between the pics!

@elke Thanks Elke :o) I know nothing about technology so have no idea how easy it would be so it's just a thought really. Hopefully Ross will get back to us with an answer xx

I'd like this too but like you Lisa my knowlede of programming computers/websites is 0!

I'm sure it's possible. I know Facebook has a system just like that, but I'm ok with it like it is. I'd be fine with it changed too though, so...just throwing my two cents out that Facebook does it too.

I would actaully like to have a like button, i see so many awesome shots but sometimes just dont have enough time comment on them all, but would still like to acknowledge that they are fantastic !

I totally agree with you Lisa - it would make it easier. I also find it difficult when you receive a notification that you have been mentioned in a comment because again you don't know which photo it is about.

i was thinking the exact same thing yesterday! after uploading a load of pics, it was so confusing to go through every comment, especially if the comments were from the same person - I think instead of a link to 'photo' it should be the name of the photo itself...if possible!

I think this would be a really, really, really good idea. Great suggestion. :)

this would be great :) i dont really like the idea of a 'like' button though.. i think that would undermine the value of writing your own individual words about an image - replacing it with something impersonal and too 'easy'. over time people would stop commenting on most photos. also i dont know whether this happens to everybody or whether its an idiosyncracy of my computer, but after i've looked at a new notification i'll often be told it's 'new' for days afterwards which leads to groundless excitement :p does this happen to anybody else?

@izzymathie Sometimes. But if you hover over the notification icon while you're on the notification page, it goes away. If that makes sense
August 29th, 2011
@izzymathie @debsulzberger We have discussed the like-button some time ago and the general consensus was that that would make this project less personal, so we stick to the fav and comments.

@marinda @geertje ah okay. thank you both!
August 29th, 2011
@geertje On thinking i suppose it would, it would be far too easy to the click rather than take the time to comment, good point , thanks... :)

Yes there are lots of things I would like to change, the newsfeed and notifications have had various incarnations but none of them beat what we have at the moment, i need to seriously sit down and do some work on it, thanks for the feedback!

@Scrivna Thanks for replying Ross. I suddenly realised I'd tagged you with a lower case 's' so you would have had no hope of being notified!! I'd appreciate it if you could look into my suggestion. Like I said I have no idea of the practicalities/ ins and outs of whether it's feasible though :o) xx

I keep my email open when I'm on 365 and check back and forth. It does save some time and the email gives more info.
