Battery Grip

I am thinking about purchasing a battery grip for my Canon 50D. Just curious who uses one and how do you like it. Looking at pics it really looks bulky just wondering if its worth getting.

My husband has one for his Nikon D90, it does make a little heavier and it is a bit bulky, but I don't mind it when I use his camera to shoot Ice hockey games. He did have to get a bigger camera bag though ;-))
He wouldn't change back now, to be honest I am not going to get one for my D90 as quite happy using my camera as is.

I have a grip for my 60D and my original Rebel 300, I find it actually makes it easier to get a "steady" grip so to say, but it all depends on your preference. I got a cheap one off of Amazon that came with 4 batteries and a thing that lets you use AA's if you can't charge your batteries... all for $60The batteries work great and the grip is awesome....the link is to the brand that I got...but for your camera..
There are plenty of other ones

i use one on my D90, as well as a rubber outer housing. being a knuckle dragging neanderthal i find that the added bulk helps me in stabilizing it, but i prefer the larger camera housings, even the old D1 was the right size i thought. the additional weight does not seem to be an issue, it is really not that heavy. i have also added a wrist strap to the side for easier one hand operation, was a cheap add on, but comes in quite ... handy.

I have one on my 50D & my 400D. I recommend them wholeheartedly.
For one thing twice as many batteries in the camera means twice as much battery life.
Also, the second shutter release for portrait shooting is really useful - I couldn't be without it now.
Yes it does add bulk & weight, but it's a price worth paying.
BTW, I have only ever used the genuine Canon ones - not the cheapest, but the quality is spot on.

I love using a battery grip. As said before, it does get heavier but after a while you get used to it and and the camera feels more studier in your hands. Kinda makes it look and feel more professional too ;)

I have one for my E3 and I love it. I tend to shoot a lot of "profile" shots, so I really like the additional trigger and dials and buttons available. Plus I can get well over a week of shooting with the additional battery power!

I have one on the Nikon D80 and love it. Took a little to get used to the new balance and weight but that didn't take long at all. And the battery life is awesome.

I have one for my Canon T2i and love it. I prefer the larger size (easier to hold and stabilize) and I find the additional shutter and dial useful. Plus, I never worry about running out of juice.

I used a cheap 3rd party battery grip and also 3 aftermarket batteries (so I always have 2 back-up batteries). I have used it for nearly a year and I have no complaints at all. In fact, I can't imagine spening 3x's the amount on the Canon brand (but I'm on a tight budget)

Thanks everyone for the input, I think I will get one. I have been looking on ebay and looks like I can get an after market and a couple of extra batteries for a descent price.

I have a battery grip on my Sony, I spent weeks agonising over whether to get one or not and I'm so glad I did as I couldn't be without it now.

One word of caution though, a grip and extra battery add weight so you may need to upgrate your tripod (if you have one) as I have now found there is camera shake while set up on the tripod - damn those cheap eBay items LOL.

Well got my battery grip today along with 2 extra batteries. Just messing around it feels pretty good in my hands. Does add some extra weight but not bad. I did just upgrade my tripod so that shouldn't be an issue. I LIKE IT!!!
