Looking for fast point and shoot...

September 22nd, 2011
My sister is in the market for a fast point and shoot. She knows nothing about cameras, but likes to be able to take pictures at horse shows (she is an equestrian) so she wants to be able to take crisp, clear pictures of jumps without having to fiddle with manual features. She has no interest in learning photography. I don't even know where to start when looking for a point and shoot that does quality action stills. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thank you :)

I just bought a Canon SX220/230 that I am happy with. It has a good zoom so that she can zoom in on the horses in a big arena. It is fully automatic but also has manual controls in case your sister gets bitten by the photo bug ;-)

It also takes HD video

any of the lumix range, fabulously fast and very versatile so if she does get the bug she can experiment a bit more

she needs something with a fast lens, f/2 or something. I'd go for canon s90/95/100 or the panasonic lumix lx3/5

Sony Cybershot DSC-WX7 has a burst setting where you can take a series of action shots.

Nothing beats a Lumix for point and shoot clarity. I have the LX5 which is fully automatic and fully manual and has the most amazing presets for amateurs. I actually use this more than my SLR now.

I got mine through this site and had no problems at all. Best purchase ever!
