100 days to go

September 22nd, 2011
For everyone who started on 1st January today is day 265, congratulations for making it this far!

I was wondering how you're feeling about this last stretch?

I have really enjoyed the last 265 days, I've had a few days when I've been stuck for ideas and struggled but overall I've looked forward to taking my pictures.

However now the days are growing shorter and each day seems busier than the last I'm a little aprehensive about having enough time each day, especially as I prefer to take my photos outside with natural light.

I have learnt so much since January and I know theres still so much more to learn, I expect come 1st Jan '12 my project will be turning into a 730!

I think mine will too :) I have so many incredible things to look forward to next year - going to South Africa on a cricket tour, getting a job, buying a house etc. Plus I've really enjoyed being able to do this, and my photography is so much better for it!

This last stretch is going to be incredibly difficult for me. At the beginning of October I'm having major spinal surgery, so the last 3 months are going to be all about hospitals and recovery, so I'm rather apprehensive about that. I am however looking forward to taking photos of snow (fingers crossed!!), Christmas decorations, fireworks on bonfire night etc. So lots of highs and lots of lows, so this could be a mixed bag. I am also hoping that I will be able to get out of this slump and really push forward with my photography.

I am struggling right now. I keep thinking, oh, I could take ANOTHER photo of a flower, my kids....I think I had a surge of creativity that is leaving, so I will be focusing on a diary until creative thinking comes back.

On another note, I made a photo book for my family yesterday of shots from last Sept to now, and I can see MAJOR improvement on my photos. I started getting better once I started this 365, so I am certain, I will give it another go once my end date comes up.

I want to once again THANK YOU for the awesome words you said in July about how many years do we have a photo or memory from everyday of a year? I am constantly repeating this to myself and sharing it with others while giving you credit for such insightful words! It is what keeps me going. THANK YOU!!!

Jan
@cally Best wishes for your recovery.

I'm not as far through yet as I started late but have learnt heaps and heaps and the constant exercise is good for developing skills. Still, I have posted something everyday for 148 days and for a novice, I'm quite pleased with that.

I'm excited about this final stretch. I've never stuck with a "new year's resolution" so long, and at this point, I now know I'll make it to the end. Really, really happy about that! Like you, I've felt stuck for ideas at several points throughout the project, but overall, I'm quite happy with my progress.

I will not be doing a 365 in 2012, primarily because I want to spend the coming year internalising what I've learned this year... spending time off to plan ways to put my new knowledge into practice. I do not, however, rule out the idea of starting another year of daily photos in 2013 (or even in mid-2012... who knows???). I just need a couple months of down time after this initial project. :-)

Congrats to all who have made it this far!

At times I have LOVED this....and at times it has been a huge imposition on my time. It DOES keep me focused on photography though....and it has become a rare event when I don't have a camera with me. I don't intend to quit at the end of the year....I intend to keep going, but perhaps I won't focus as much on taking a picture EVERY day. I have already reached the point where I am using fillers - maybe three pictures from a photo shoot one day. But it's my project and I am going to finish. I highly recommend this as a way to keep focused on your camera.

I have every intention in carrying on after this project, every shot I take makes me think of ways to push myself in other areas and to have such a supportive and fantastic group as this to be able to express my art makes it all the better. heres to the next 100 shots and beyond.

I can't believe how time has flown. I am amazed to find that I have not lost my enthusiasm for this project, and I cannot imagine quitting after I hit 365. This project has helped me advance my photography skills, but there is still so much to learn that I can't quit! Not to mention I just love the people on this site and would miss the interaction tremendously.

I started on December 31st. I cannot believe that I have only 99 more shots to go! I have learned so much during the last 266 days. This project is incredible.

@emmar84 I struggle too...especially on these shorter days. But I know I'll feel awesome when I complete the project...and I'm SURE I won't be leaving either. I have so so so much to learn (especially if I want to start a side business). I can't believe how I've improved...it's so awesome to see isn't it??

I already know my 365 will be a 730. I have one more album to fill, so I'll be starting a second 365 come January 1. I've enjoyed the challenge this year. No fillers. Every shot was taken on the day it was supposed to be taken on. A couple of days have been rough and I know I've become more discriminate over the past 265 days. I'm looking forward to this last 100 days.

Some of the things I've noticed since the beginning of the year:
1) sunsets are much more noticeable, and I track the sunset time more closely.
2) there are so many things you can do with just the camera to get interesting effects
3) you can practically stop anywhere, look around, and find a challenging object to shoot
4) being too critical can be very discouraging to oneself
5) i like water, reflections, and sunsets
6) you always have to have the camera ready, cause stuff happens way too fast and you miss it!
7) printing photos and putting together an album as you go is an encouraging activity

I'm gonna have to move somewhere else at the end of the year when (not if!) I continue next year. It sometimes feels like I'm taking the same shots over and over. ;-) And it will be a 731 (leap year) for all those who continue!

easy. Taking a photo a day has been money for jam... I'm looking for to the final 100 and I have some very cool ideas for the final 7. But looking forward to what I have planned for 2012.

@cally I actually am having some surgery in December or January (just as I hit 365) and I am already writing down my ideas. One of the things I want to do for next year is take one photo and do multiple edits of the same photo for each day of the week. While it is not a "photo a day" it is still working on elements to learn each day.

i cant' believe there's only 100 days left!
i'm already proud of myself for making it farther than i did last year (about this time is when i stoppped in 2010, but i had started in april, this year i started in jan)
the first 100 went quickly...but i'm not sure if i want the next 100 to go so quick..because then the year is over!
September 23rd, 2011
@brumbe Hope your surgery goes well! I should be in hospital for about 2 weeks, so plenty of time to take photos of drips and ceilings and stuff. I'm sure there's loads of things I can do!
September 23rd, 2011
@cally I have assigned my lovely assistant the task of bringing my camera and macro lens and interesting things she finds. I only have two or three days for a hip replacement, but I may also start doing finger photos (just imagine them with bandages and scars and stitches), flower photos and such.
September 23rd, 2011
@brumbe I'm having spinal surgery, so I don't think I'm going to be particularly mobile. I could also attach my camera to the laptop and get my boyfriend or dad to point the camera out the window or something and then press the shutter button myself on the laptop. I may have to get a photo of my scar as well - only time I will be able to see it!
