Tools

Not editing or camera and lens tools, but those other odd things you have found useful to have with you. What have you found that you need to have? Anything you are planning on getting? How about something that needs to be invented? Tweezers, sunscreen and bug repellent have found their way into my bag, and today as I was picking even more sand burs out of my socks, I decided that I'm investing in a pair of gaiters to solve the problem once and for all. Then I thought, why stop there? To steal a thought from Pat McManus, I need an alarm to warn me that I am about to do something stupid or dangerous. Do I really need to be walking on rip rap on the wrong side of the guard rail?

How about you?

LOL @ Pat McManus! I read and re-read those books many times.

I carry a rubber band either a normal wide band or a fruit/vegetable band to get my filter off my lens.

torch... I am amazed how often I use when doing night shots, guide my way, light certain areas of the shot....

@shadesofgrey I use a rubber glove for the same reason.

For times there is a bit of vegetation blocking my shot, i've often wished I had one of these with my kit.
Or for poles, cars...

@frameit being an American, my first image when you said torch was completely different, and still quite useful.

@asrai Lol, my son's friend left his Ghillie suit at our house (don't ask) so maybe I should be putting it to good use! My bright pink sweatshirt has scared away many wild creatures.

I try to carry a plastic bag around with me to put on the floor to kneel on when it's wet.

I filled my camera bag with all sorts of things I read were necessary tools, such as small flashlight, lenspen, plastic baggie, filter wrench, small spray bottle, etc., but I'm finding that I don't use any of it. Maybe as I master more skills or have more than one lens to use? Or maybe I'm a minimalist?

@asrai I never realized how essential a Ghillie suit could be. Loved the link :)

I think I could do with a zimmer frame to cling onto to get back up off the ground after trying for a low angle - oh, and a season ticket for the chiropractor after putting my back out doing same. :-D
