Why don't people look at my photos anymore?

November 5th, 2011
At first, about like 20 people looked at my photos, and I got a few comments. I have only 5 followers, but now everybody has stopped looking at my photos and stopped commenting. Is it because I am uninteresting or is it because I had stopped putting up pics. for a week? I even comment on all of my followers photos and everything. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks,
Shifie

I'm going to hazard a guess and say that it's because you're only following 9 people and perhaps aren't too active on the commenting yourself? As people get further and further into their projects it's hard to keep up with so many people posting amazing shots every single day, and a lot of people tend to comment only on those who take the time to look at their shots as well. It's a reciprocal thing - not saying your photos aren't lovely - I had a browse through and they're quite good. I have people that I follow and who follow me in return, but we're uploading at completely opposite times, so by the time I've gone through the people's shots that have taken the time to look at mine that day - a lot of the other people's shots have been completely buried in my newsfeed. Hope that makes sense?

@pwallis I totally understand what you're saying. Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it. :)

It seems like 3 of the 6 people who are following you have stopped uploading pictures and have probably given up on the 356 project. That could be part of the reason.

You have some nice shots with interesting processing but I notice that about half your shots are what I would call "family snapshots". Nothing wrong with that, but it's difficult for "outsiders" to comment on shots like that.

Don't worry about it. You've only just started your project. Keep shooting and uploading pictures, participate in themes and challenges and comment on other people's shots and you'll eventually get more followers and comments

@pwallis That was well put Paula and I agree.

Sometimes time just gets in the way as well and I know, myself for one, may take a day or two to view others' photos because I may upload mine, but then have to run and won't get back here until the following day. You just started, hang in there!! @helstor also stated it well too.

Don't get discouraged! (I'm talking to myself just as much here, too!) I used to have 100+people view and comment on my photos, but for the last several weeks now I feel lucky to have 25 views. It is hard not to take it personally, but I've learned that the less time I spend looking at and commenting on others' photos, the fewer comments I get myself. I'm learning to be content with my own assessment of my work - if I like it, then that's all that matters. I must admit, that is easier said than done though. I still find myself getting discouraged. You are just starting your project so hang in there! Do as the others have suggested, follow more people, and I think you'll find they'll return the kindness. The more active you are on here, the more exposure you get. Keep taking photos of those magnificent children of yours - they are beautiful! - and don't give up. I think you will be amazed at how your photography improves as your progress through the project.

Not many people used to look at my pics or follow, but am taking time to give others feedback and join in submitting some of your photos into the themes and competitions. Many of my pics are often a repition of a particular scene taken over different days and months.

Even though I have several cameras I tend only to take pics with iphone, but sometimes play with hipstamatic filters and even have bought a telephoto lens attachment. Most of my photos are naked without after processing. It is nice to find a niche and discover others in there too at 365. Hopefully I have taken a jump on David Hockney!

I agree with @pwallis this is a site where you really get out of it what you put inot it. Follow some people, comment on your followers and comment on the people who make comments on your photos. Participate in discussions and themes. Find others in your area and try to do a photo field trip.

@dejongdd Thank you for your advice! You really encouraged me! Also, the kids I take pictures of are just my little sister and cousins because actually, I'm just a kid myself. :)

1. Gaps in your project.
2. Take photos of things which might inspire conversation...is this what your home made bread looks like? etc etc
3. you will find good followers but its a long process and you're just beginning, I have about 10 people I really want to see the pics of, and they tend to like my pics too. To find those 10 I have 180 followers and i have at one time or another followed about 250 people but I delete those who give up. You need to build up a following and keep them by regular posting. It is true that you get a wave when you're new and that dies off, you have to exchange ideas. ;)
