Sadly Scottish singer-song writer, Jackie Leven, passed away on Monday night after a battle with cancer.
Although I never knew him personally, the man had presence and an undescribable way with words. I passed the opportunity to go and see him live back in December 2010, as I was too skint to attend the gig, something I deeply regret.
I hope you'll take the time to listen... and enjoy.
Wow. I've never heard of him until now, I love the Elegy to Johnny Cash, and My Philosophy. Man knew how to write a song that hits you in the teeth. Wow.
And what a beautiful photo you've put in here as a tribute. Somehow captures the mood of his music perfectly.
The quote of the beginning of the "Bonn" interview, when talking about how he was attacked and nearly killed.. He was unable to talk for two years and became addicted to heroin...
"I couldn't talk or sing, so I thought I might as well do something interesting".
"I think in those circumstances maybe a piece of you does die, but maybe that piece needs to die. After two years of this silence, I was watching some children playing down by the River Thames, I just heard a voice in my head that said... I want my life back".
He took so much positivity out of his darkest times. The man was truly an inspiration.
