Canon 7D Vs Canon 60D

November 17th, 2011
I am currently looking at upgrading my canon rebel to either a Canon 7D or a 60D. I have read so many reviews and they both are awesome, Solid, and Fast Cameras. But I Reallyy reallyy want the 7D but everytime I look at the price tag compared to the 60D I just Cringe.

So what are thoughts on those two cameras?

Sorry Cade, you get what you pay for. The image quality of the 7D when compared with the 60D is superior. It's simply down to the depth of your pocket, incidentally the 5D is superior to the 7D and so it goes on, the sky is not the limit! :-D

i am pining for a 5D myself!!

I had to toss up between the two recently - I had enough cash to buy either (though 7D was slighty more of a stretch of course!)
In the end I opted for the 60D; the main reasons on choice came down purely to size and weight! I'm sure I would've loved the 7D if I'd've bought it, but I'm delighted with my 60D - still so much to learn about it, i'm glad I didn't fritz my brain by jumping over to 7D straight off!

I have a 60d and my brother has the 7d. If you plan on using all of the features the 7d has to offer and can afford the price tag it is a great camera. I decided on the 60 so I could save up for the 5D but still have a very good camera in the interim. Also, the swivel screen on the 60d allows for shots you normally can't get!

HD
I just bought the 7D last week to upgrade from T2i. The main reason I chose 7D over 5D was the fps. To me 8 fps was important factor with RAW. If only 5D had 8fps...The next 8fps or greater in Canon family costs more than $5000.
For all the other factors, 5D is a winner.

I was also considering both when I bought my camera. I went to a camera store and held both in my hands. The more sturdy feel of the 7d won me over. It's bigger and heavier, and I love that about it.

Just do it, Cade! It might be cheaper but for a little more money you'll never say, "I wish I would have..." By the way, My hands were sweaty and I was feeling very faint when I bought mine but its all part of the experience! Get the 7D!

IMO if you want to spend the bucks on the 7D you might as well go for a 5D ii.

I know nothing about the 60D. But I LOVE MY 7D!!! LOVE IT!!! LOVE IT!!!! Oh and I've tried the 5D ii and there were just issues that pissed me off. So, my opinion...7D!! LOVE IT!

I disagree that the image quality is that much better in the 7D than the 60D. The image sensors are the exact same in both. Like @devanago , the only appeal for me in the 7D was higher fps, but I didn't have the extra few hundred to pay for the extra processor and besides I suddenly wanted the option for HD video, which I've been opposed to in the past. (Having kids does that.) There just isn't going to be a measurable difference between these two cameras. Between either of them and a 5D ii, sure. But most people don't have over two grand laying around, ya know?

I love my 60D, but don't skimp on glass. Ditch the kit lens ASAP. (Still working on that myself.)

@dweezie I so agree with Amanda on this one! I did the research and the only difference in the 60D vs. the 7D was the fps. I opted to go with the 60D for now and am saving for the 5D. I just love my 60D and don't have any complaints!!

I haven't tried the 60D but I absolutely love my 7D, it does everything I want & more! The fps is awesome :)

The video is cool too if you like that, I don't normally use it but a friend asked for some help with her dog so I tried it out & it's brilliant!

I'm not looking to upgrade now as I think the 7D will be enough for me but that's just me!

Basically it comes down to you, go to a shop hold both models & see which you like best! Even though I've got small hands I've got the battery grip on my 7D as it just somehow feels right!?!

The most important thing is enjoy whichever model you go with :)

Just driving home what everyone else said...

The 60D and 7D have identical sensors and video/image quality. The 7D might handle high ISO better since it has an additional processor. But, in the end, it boils down to the higher FPS, the build quality, and a few extra frills.

I shoot with a T1i/550D (and have for two years), and was recently thinking about upgrading, but decided it wouldn't be worth it. For me, it's either springing for the 5D, or leaping all the way up for the 1DX. There just aren't enough different features or necessary improvements in the 60D or 7D to justify dropping the cash. Also, I see no point in buying another camera with an identical ASP-C censor, regardless of how many processors it has.

Honestly, you're already shooting with a T3i. Unless you're pooing money (I'll assume you are not), it's not worth upgrading to either model unless you really need a better build or more FPS.

Buying a 60D in 7D would be like buying a brand new car of the same model you already own because it has power windows, a sunroof, and goes zero to sixty in five seconds instead of seven. Such things are nice, but certainly not necessities, or drastic enough to make a difference in your day-to-day driving.

Buying a 5D II would be like upgrading from a Honda Civic to a Rolls Royce. Buying a 1DX would be like upgrading to a Panzer IV. (I'm done with the analogies.)

Why not just save up a bit longer for a camera that will really make a difference in the quality of your shots? I think you should buy a battery grip for your T3i, and save up for an even better body, or take a vacation to Bali.

But, hey, if you're going to do it, go for the 7D.

Interesting points, but it really boils down to your own situation. I had a toss up earlier this year regarding the 60D / 7D / 5D mkII and ended up with the 7D.

All the points above are totally valid and the important thing for me here was the noise during night time shooting. I came from a 450D and just HATED he noise that it pumped out when shooting anywhere above ISO 400. so my decision was based on wanting the best low light shots available. With the 7D, i've shot at 3200, 6400 and while its not great, the noise is nowhere near as bad.

also, I use my kit for travelling and keep in mind that the 7D is made of a magnesium alloy body, its built tough so it suits my purposes. Paired with my 24-105L lens, its water resistant so I dont really worry too much if it rains and I want to take THAT shot.

The last thing to consider was the price - the 7D was alot more expensive than the 60D but in the UK, jessops do a finance deal - I think you drop something like 10% up front and then pay the rest over 10 months (no interest). Sure the price tag on it from a shop meant I was paying a bit more than if i'd bought it online but paying it over 10 months meant that I just didnt feel the big cost bite.

All things to consider, but I had the choice again, Id still choose what I have. That said, if the 5D mkIII ever comes out, I may get one :)

@neda I would but the 5D doesnt have the FPS that the 60D and the 7D have. I do alot of actions sports shooting

Shot on a 30D with only 3fps Here's another one that I posted on my site but havent gotten around to uploading here yet
