crazy color blind guy

November 18th, 2011
well, I would like to take a moment to introduce all my friends and fellow 365'ers to a new shutterbug that has just gotten addicted to this site and photography. Trent Gaines - @trentgaines has just gotten into shooting. he is a long time friend of mine, and with the help of modern technology and HDR and maybe putting up with all my ranting about behind the lens he has become hooked. I find it interesting his outlook on colors because of his scope of color range, and am quite excited that he is here and into shooting. Please follow him, give him feedback, so he can grow in his new found addiction.
below is one of his shots

I am quite excited he is here, and would love to see him grow in his talents

Thanks, Chris. I'm excited to get involved with this.

To anyone who reads this, any feedback is appreciated. I'm think skinned (again, thanks, Chris, you added many layers of skin over the years), and I'm very aware that what I see isn't what most people see. I don't know how my images (or any images) look to other people and all feedback helps me understand what I'm doing. For me, color is elusive. I don't see a great deal of it and, from what I can tell, I don't see it the same way other people do. So, I don't really understand how color plays in the principles of art. It's like trying to describe how an apple tastes to someone who has no point of reference.

So, if you would like, tell me what you see. I may not understand the meaning of your words. I may not know how to reply. But I am listening.

@trentgaines I have real struggles on yellows and greens and blues. I see the primary shades but struggle on when they blend. Yes,I am female and color blind.

@trentgaines Welcome and looking foward to your view point on things!

@brumbe I would never have known!

@brumbe @cchambers - wow, how interesting. I love your photo above Trent and will fave it immediately. Paula - you are one of my great inspirations at 365. Just goes to show - there's a lot more to photography than color - in fact color is just a small part of it. I wonder if some form or color blindness means there's less distraction that permits you more direct access to line, composition, form and such . . .

@trentgaines I will follow with interest as to what you post. My bf is extremely colour blind, struggling with the normal browns, reds and green, but also with pinks and blues and 'natural' colours. It frustrates and saddens *me* more than it does *him* though, because I'm always realising he doesn't see/appreciate my photos the way I expect him to (and likes "strange" ones, possibly because of their colour). Luckily he sees no problem with it - why would he? He knows no different... :(
