To use a single object through a series of photos was suggested by a member. I also know that there has been a month long challenge, so hopefully there will be an overlap of three days so that there can be participation in both.
Our goal is to really work on composition this week by taking one object (flower, clock, glass, duck, bottle, shoe, etc). And come up with a variety of different photos that highlight the versatility of your object and push you to think a bit outside of the box.
The label is y2singleobject and as always, I will pick the top five (or six) on Sunday and post them at the end of the discussion. Also put your thinking caps on because next week will be Weather, and since we all have it, we should get some great entries.
Fabulous. I'm not QUITE in y2 yet...about 70 shots to go...but I'd like to take part in this just the same - @beamqueen, @honeybees, @cheyrebecca and @twinsplusone have inspired me with their single subject! I'm yet to find my own subject though...
@lolanae@tamsg4@scooter@lluniau I knew this was coming so had a bit of time to consider. Also we changed the name to y2 instead of Year Two so that all would feel welcome. Some days it helps to have a bit of inspiration or direction for a photo.
@jsw0109 no rules required other than take it during the one week period. I did four shots today because I may not get time later in the week. You can do one shot or 21 shots it seems. Do what works best for you.
I was wondering the same thing as Jeff above. Do we have to enter a shot each day? Can we do several in one day and post during the week? I haven't done this before.
@mittens feel free to do one shot or more. When looking at the top five it will be more on how you use the object in composition and creativity and not compare it to all the other photos of the object taken. Does that make sense. This is more just an activity to help think creatively on how to use an object differently.
@lluniau Thanks so much for the mention!! And the other projects you mentioned happened to be my 2 daughters and my BFF, so you included me among good company!! Can't wait to see what you come up with!!
@brumbe thank you for the recognition, had fun with that photo shoot with my baby boy that day, that was from a single object challenge & i enjoyed doing it so i am joining in this one
Just one question, does the tagging for this challenge stop Sat or Sun?
I'm not sure whether I've misunderstood this challenge, or whether a few others have, but looking at the collection of photos with this tag, it seems some people have taken it to be a week's (or at least multiple days) worth of photos of the same object, whereas others have taken it to be a challenge to shoot a (single) photo of "a single object"...(!)
Whether I misunderstood or not, I've enjoyed it, and have appreciated not having to stress about what to shoot (only how to shoot it!). Glad my week of it is over tomorrow mind...I'm running out of ideas! Thanks Paula!
@lluniau -- Thank you! I'm debating what I am going to do with them. My doctor has offered to let me display some of my photos in her office! Yay, my first "showing." I'm thinking perhaps I should ask a juice bar to display this series.....
@mainebrighteyes Maybe you should revisit the series and take the same shots with apples for your doctor...An apple a day keeps the doctor away, after all!
@lluniau -- LOL, then they'd be out of business! This one deals with alignment, so that's a good idea! BTW, was I supposed to collage my photos for the y2singleobject?
@mainebrighteyes No, don't worry! I just took advantage of my ACE account and uploaded an extra image.
Having seen some of these Droste images on here recently I've taken advantage of my leftover subjects to play around a little, and create another image for my series. Here it is.
(edit:I've also suffered from a bout of OCD and recreated the collage to include it!)
@mainebrighteyes Yeah, I followed a PS tutorial, but used GIMP. I don't own PS, but they seem similar enough to use the tutorials to a certain extent. I don't really understand GIMP yet either, mind!...more of a Picnik girl really...shame it's coming to an end.
@lluniau I think it has reinvigorated me for year two because it works on must dos and skills and gets me not just walking aimlessly around looking for a photo for the day.
thanks Paula and great job everyone!!!! This was a fun challenge! And I agree Paula, its nice to not be on the constant lookout for a shot, but to be thinking creatively to create your shot

I'm torn between two things for my single subject. I need to make up my mind. LOL
