First, let me say that it took every bit of willpower I had not to process this as a black and white! lol Anyway, here's my entry as well as the details for how it was produced:
Processing Details:
Processing started in the Camera RAW dialog in PSE 10. I adjusted clarity, exposure, contrast, applied a bit of noise reduction and sharpening. I also set the white balance to "daylight." From there the image was brought into PSE and manually rotated to the orientation you see in the final image.
Step 1. In the Topaz Adjust plug-in I applied a "detail light" filter. I also adjusted adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, protect highlights, details, and strength.
Step 2. I duplicated that layer and brought it into the Topaz B&W FX plug-in. To that I applied a classic filter and adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, boost white, and protect highlights.
Step 3. I placed that layer on top of the Topaz Adjust layer using a soft light blend mode. I then applied a high pass filter with a 3 pixel radius. (This adds a level of sharpening without impacting the color.)
Step 4. I duplicated the Topaz Adjust layer and brought it into Neat Image to remove any excess noise. I let Neat Image determine the proper sample and selected the "remove all noise" option.
Step 5. Back in PSE, the image was cropped to what you see here.
@iwatts Ian, Thank you very much for keeping me in loop since my win in the first competition. I really appreciate it. It's not your fault that I'm not around at that time but you have tried a lot to give me my chance in hosting. However, I think it's not fair for @dreamatrix for me to butt in now and share his success. He won fair and square and he should have full hosting honors. I'm sure I'll have my chance again sometime because I love raw editing and I'm going to keep participating in these challenges.
Congratulations, Dreamatrix(Paul)!
Ian, again, thank you for starting this challenge.
1. Raised shadows to bring out detail, and the adjusted black and white to ensure full spectrum. Adjusted clarity then cropped.
2. Applied various filters in Picture Effects, including subtle HDR.
3. Back in Lightroom lowered the saturation of the surrounding.
