A big well done to Vicky G for winning last weeks Blur theme.
Vicky has kindly chosen the theme of Purple for this week.
I am absolutely honored! Thank you! I would like to choose the theme of Purple.
As some may know, and many may not, November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month (supported by the purple ribbon).
A few years ago, right around this time of the year a very close friend's mother (she was like a second mother to me) was diagnosed with this disease...within 4 months she had fallen victim to it. It is a largely understudied cancer, and is the 4th leading cancer resulting in death in the US each year, with a 5 year survival rate of only 5%.
So, I choose this theme for her! To help increase awareness of this "silent killer" for at least one week of the month. Thank you all again so much!
To enter this weeks theme please tag your photos theme-purple
Entry to this theme starts on Monday (1st November) and will accept entries until Sunday night (23:59 GMT 7th November).
Entries must have been taken and uploaded this week only! Entries outside of the date range will not be accepted.
Congratulations Vicky! It's so nice to know that you want to dedicate this weeks theme for someone who is dear to your heart and to create awareness. It's a privilege to take part of it.
great idea for a theme, very touching reasons as well.
I'm hoping to get some purple shots tonight, I'm going out for Halloween and hope to see lots of cool costumes too :D
Congrats Vicki! I LOVE the theme, as it's my favorite color, AND because of the cause behind it. So many people die from this disease, and it's highly understudied. It's nice to know they've given it it's very own month and color -- bring on the pics!
Vicky, I had never heard of this cause or month. Great way to use your win to increase awareness! Excited about the theme. Would be great if we could think of ways to raise money for research. Congratulations!
Congrats Vicky. I am sorry for your loss of such a loved person. Great theme idea and I'm thrilled -- my FAV color !! Can't wait to see what everyone creates !
Congrats, and thanks for choosing this theme. I currently have a friend in Florida, a breast-cancer survivor, who had the radical Whipple surgery for pancreatic cancer and chemo last year, was doing well, and now there is something in her lungs. It's rough, but she has a great attitude about it all, and a crowd of supporting family and friends!
I was not aware of that, Vicky (re: November). I am looking forward to honoring a friend of mine who passed from pancreatic cancer several years ago with a picture for this week's theme.
Congrats! My father died of pancreatic cancer . . . diagnosed 2 months after he retired and died 2 months after that. I look forward to shooting some purple this week!
My mother passed away from pancreatic cancer a number of years ago just before I turned 16. She was one of the rare few who lasted for another 5 years after her first surgery. But I agree that it is very understudied and most are unaware at how deadly it really is. I'm sorry for your loss. Thank you for giving us a chance to honor those we have lost as well.
I'm hoping to get some purple shots tonight, I'm going out for Halloween and hope to see lots of cool costumes too :D
love your thoughts and purpose behind the theme... PLUS its my favorite color! can't beat that :)
