Still one week left!

Any other "flash" questions? Might be a good time to ask us, we'll try to help.

Some extra suggestions, if you are reading this, to help you improve (a little) the most unflattering light of the built-in flash.

1. Diffuse the light. This is actually something all flash should try to do. It's basically trying to make the light source "bigger." Something as simple as a piece of clean white paper held in front of the flash, and fire through it

2. For $15 or so, you can try the purpose made "soft boxes" that can fit around the built-in flash. Just one is the LumiQuest Soft Screen. B&H Photo have them, as I am sure many other stores do. It works rather well.

3. The color of the flash is very "cool," very "white" indeed. As are all electronic flashes. You might try to put a "gel" (colored translucent paper) over the light, something like a mild orange. You can get a sheet of 1/4 cut CTO (color temperature orange) for five or six dollars but of course you only need a very small piece to cut out and fasten on. You might consider even keeping it there always.

4. Keep the power of the flash as low as feasible. Check up Flash Exposure Compensation from last challenge. I know some of you don't like to use a "post editor" but it is much better to have the flash underexposed some and recover the tones in Lightrrom, Camera Raw, Aperture or similar, than to have the full power of the built in flash blast out indiscriminately.

And of course if you are really seriously interested in flash, a Speedlight external flash makes the world of difference, especially if you take it off the camera and place it at an angle to your subject. Let us know here if you would like to hear more.

Good flashing!
