Thanks so much to @northy for hosting the last artist challenge and introducing many of us to the work of Thomas Vanoost. I was beyond surprised and delighted to have my image chosen.
This is the first time I have won this challenge, and I fretted quite a bit about which artist to choose. After giving due consideration to Canada's deep artistic history and looking at who has/hasn't been featured previously, I decided I was overthinking it and just went with someone I like. 😊
This challenge will focus on contemporary photographer Alan Schaller. I just love the way he uses light. Schaller is a street photographer who works in black and white. His work is notable for his use of deep shadows, silhouettes, and the way he incorporates geometry into his images. Street photography not really your thing? Don't worry, he's also done a series on dogs and another on pigeons. Lots to choose from!
- His website is alanschaller.com.
- You might also enjoy this short video he did with Smug Mug.
- Finally, here is an interview and another video courtesy of Leica.
The challenge will run from today, August 12th through September 12th. Please tag your images ac-schaller. Photos must be taken during the time period, and you can tag as many as you like. However, only one image per photographer can make the short list.
I hope you find something in his work that inspires you!
