I have TWO things I can't figure out on my D3000. 1) You know how some cameras will let you shoot with a grid on the viewfinder, so that it can help you line up the horizon, rule of thirds, etc.? Can you do that on the D3000? 2) Can you shoot with the histogram ON, so that you can see problems with exposure, light, etc., before you take the shot? I always look afterwards, which seems to not be as helpful as it could be.
@beautifulthing This review of the D3100 says there is no live Histogram, so I'm assuming that is the case for the D3000? Of course I maybe be completely wrong :)
@sdpace Aw, you're a peach. Truth be told, it would have probably ended up in the stack of books that I ought to be reading so I can learn more but that I DON'T read because I spend too much time frittering away on the Interwebs and watching Doctor Who.
@jasehoad I think you are probably right! I'd have to toggle back and forth...hmm. I'm sure it'd be worth doing but it feels awfully fussy for a lazy girl.
@dkg@sdpace@jasehoad Hmm... a Google of "live histogram on d3000" shows that Jase is right and the D3000 doesn't have this option. And a further Google of "viewfinder grid d3000" shows that you turn on the grid via Setup > Viewfinder options.
I have the D3000, the only histogram is after you take the shot, (press up or down when reviewing the shot)
for the grid, go to setup options, viewfinder options and turn the grid on.

@jasehoad 99.9% of the time. :)
for the grid, go to setup options, viewfinder options and turn the grid on.
