Colliding Water Drops

August 19th, 2010
I've been getting asked alot how I did my colliding water drops. First off, there is a really good tutorial here http://richallen.deviantart.com/gallery/#/ds1l3n

All I used was my camera on a tripod, a remote shutter release, a hotshoe flash and a medicine dropper.

My mediocre setup from last night

it doesn't show in the picture, but I also taped down the sides of the dropper brace so it wouldn't move and the drops would hit the same place everytime.

I squeezed out a few drops of water or milk at a time and firing the camera a split second later. Takes awhile to get the timing down. I took alot of shots before even getting one to collide.

I hope this helps a little. It takes alot of time and practice to get the timing right. I've been attempting to get colliding water drops for a long time before I finally got my timing down lastnight. and now that I have it figured out I know they'll only get better from here.

Good Luck!

I find it more amazing you are doing this manually and not using triggers. Great job.
