Just had an error 99 warning in my Canon EOS 450D. Removed the battery and after that, the camera was working again, but I'm still worried. It's not the first time this happened, when I got my Tamron 60 mm macro lens last August, the same error message occured; only once, and there were no more problems after that. But now I'm worried about my shutter. My camera has almost 20 000 shots now, so I fear the shutter might break sooner or later. I don't have the money for a new cam, so this would really suck. I'd be lost without a camera.
I've never had that happen to me, but I've seen it on here before so I went searching for you. I found this guy's blog and it seems very knowledgable so if you wanna check it out, here you go! (he got his info from the Canon Tech Support, so I'd say it's trustworthy)

Thank you for the links, that was interesting. So it could be a lot of things... I think it may have something to do with the contacts, I should definitely try to clean them. When I first googled this error, people always mentioned the shutter, and that scared me a lot! Hope it's not that!
clean your lens contacts on camera and lens seen it in my canon, tamron combo not sure why but seems to build up some minor corrosion. only bothers my tamron lens, really hate that is my wide angle zoom, and paid a ton for it.
Thanks for your participation, this thread has now been closed.
