How to get these fizzy fruit shots???

January 30th, 2011
@mimma_blue

I see these all the time and have no idea how to do them!
January 30th, 2011
id love to know this too ! glad u asked :)

i love water shots but not had a go at this !
January 30th, 2011
surely the acidity is what causes the fizz, so it should be pretty straight forward - just add to lemonade or something?
January 30th, 2011
that would be just awesome to know how to do that!
January 30th, 2011
@vikdaddy ~ i was thinking lemonade too
January 30th, 2011
I was thinking tonic water or seltzer would work well also. Never tried it though. Maybe if I have time I'll play around this week with it and put up a 'how to'. This is a great shot though.
January 30th, 2011
@vikdaddy @wolfe I think seltzer water would probably work better then lemonade since it is clear, and very fizzy! Just my thought though as I haven't tried this kind of shot yet myself
January 30th, 2011
I'd say it's more about the water than the acidity... get club soda or a very fizzy clear soda (like sprite), give it a shake before puring it then plop the fruit in?? (I'll have to try this now to figure it out lol)
January 30th, 2011
@natcruz87 That's what I meant - fizzy liquid's reaction to the acidity.
January 30th, 2011
@rebcastillo77 . Lemonade in the UK and Oz is like sprite or seven up, generic name for them, were as in the states lemonade is lemon juice in water with sugar. and ice.
January 30th, 2011
@nikkers ahhh I see!! Thanks for shedding some light LOL! I should have known that @vikdaddy knew what he was talking about :D
January 30th, 2011
@nikkers We love us some lemony water and sugar! :DD
January 30th, 2011
It's really really ridiculously simple.... If I can do it anyone can. Really. All I used was carbonated water (mineral water) the fresher the better... more bubbles. No shaking of the water, no added anything.

I used a flat faced vase and plonked the fruit in and started taking photos! The blueberries floated around and sank and spun around which was pretty trippy but the orange piece just stayed still.

Try it!
January 30th, 2011
@mimma_blue Thank you! haha Ive been dying to know how to do these, and that does sound simple! I'll definitely have to try it.

Thank you everyone for your replies!
January 30th, 2011
@rebcastillo77 . It's funny how the same word can have a different meaning in other countries...
@sdpace only if its not too acidic... will kill my guts if it is... lol
January 30th, 2011
@flamez It's fizzy water...

As another cool alternative, try dropping them into the water and hitting the shutter, it's a different effect but in a similar vein...

By the way if you keep really still you can even do this with your hand...
January 30th, 2011
@nikkers important explanation lol..... when I read "lemonade" I was thinking "that's not even clear liquid!!!" LOL
January 30th, 2011
@killerjackalope thankyou for yelling me lol ! without that notification i would have forgotten to check back (i do that loads lol)

cool it sounds so simple yet i bet in practise its not lol , mind the splash shots i did were easy easy so i think ill give this a shot :) thankyou @wolfe vfor posting the question :) looking forward to seeing your results :)
January 30th, 2011
@flamez I'm only passing the computer at the moment - check out I think two days ago on mine - wineglass... For the sharper bubbles, lots of light or any fruit they'll condense on, let it settle before shooting...
January 30th, 2011
@killerjackalope ~ fab thankyou off to look :)
January 31st, 2011
neat tutorial! interesting too!!!!
January 31st, 2011
Yep - 'lemonade' was what I used a couple of weeks ago for my shot ('Sprite' as a brand name - but yes, we folk Down Under call that lemonade!).
I popped the fruit in a wine glass, white background, near a window full of natural light...... I really want to try and action splash one next!

January 31st, 2011
try champagne.... that might help as well
January 31st, 2011
Hey thanks Wolfe yeah I tried this with alka-seltzer a while back but didn't have a lot of luck... its a lot to do all at once and catch the fizz!! So glad you posted this its really helpful to many I see, including me! >; ) good on ya! maybe a charming and delightful assistant is in order! ha!
January 31st, 2011
@canberrabec thats a fab shot :) im really really gonna try and have a go at this ! not today tho too much on :(

ive done a fair few water splash ones :) they are easy :) and sooooooo much fun ! ive done the splash coming out of the glass x 2 and a beer bottle splash and a can splash , i have to refrain myself from doing them too often now :(
January 31st, 2011

I took this shot awhile ago. For my shot, I used carbonated water. Any of the choices people listed should work great as well!
January 31st, 2011
I think I'm popping to the supermarket tomorrow for some fizzy water! Love this idea.
January 31st, 2011
yeah, just soda i would assume
January 31st, 2011
@coolgirlsar ~ hehe sarah i thought the same yesterday but didnt remember today !
January 31st, 2011
I had a go at this tonight - needs work but here it is
February 1st, 2011
This reminds me of an "experiment" I did with a special education pre-kindergarten class I taught one year. We just used grapes and sprite. We were learning positional words. The bubbles moved the grapes up and to the top, and then they'd fall back down to the bottom.

I might have to play with this on my snow day tomorrow.

my first and very lame attempts at fizzy fruits must try harder next time !! ! :

February 2nd, 2011
@flamez not bad, I like the 2nd one maybe need to let the water stand to get less fizz?
February 3rd, 2011
I thought I would put my own spin on the fizzy fruit shot, there is a raspberry in it though. Need more practice too.
February 3rd, 2011
Hmmm, another thing to put on my 'to try' list. LOL, this site is making my list WAY too long! Nicely done, everyone!
February 3rd, 2011
Heres a great article on it, http://digital-photography-school.com/forum/how-i-took/146141-fruit-splash.html just add some clear soda for the fizz effect.
February 4th, 2011
These are all great photos!! its on my "to try list now!" :D
February 4th, 2011

I am sooooo going to have to try this today!!! You guys all make it seem so easy!
Knowing me it'll take me DAYS to figure it out right lol
February 6th, 2011
After seeing all the great bubble/fizz pics I had to try this. Here's one shot from yesterday's bubble session. The blueberries ended up looking like blackberries under the water. I had fun! :)

February 8th, 2011
@flamez I LOVE the pencil shot
February 8th, 2011
Cat

my take on it!!! thank you to all that did it before me....:P
February 8th, 2011
Oh, I'm going to soooo try this!!!!!!!
February 8th, 2011
What do you guys do for the background?
February 9th, 2011
Thanks for asking... I am still trying to master the water drop but now I want to try this too.
February 9th, 2011

Thats what I got ( : haa
February 13th, 2011
@wolfe I didnt get what i wanted from fruit... so went with a paint brush and got

and...

Such an inspiring topic :)
February 15th, 2011
@lauraann01 I believe most people used plain white for a background - paper/sheet - no patterns or creases in it - if you have a white wall it should work. I've seen others try different things too for something different - you just need to stop reflections and make sure that your fizzy water and fruit are the stars. Have fun :-)
February 18th, 2011
ok I finally got to try this yesterday! it was so fun I will definately try again! I wanted to use a lime with the blueberries, but didn't make it to the store. Just wanted to say thank you to everyone that posted tips on how to make this successful, I still have a lot to learn! It sure was a blast playing though!
February 27th, 2011
There were so many great photos and tips here I decided I'd give it a try. Here's my attempt...
