That is an amazing little lens! I probably do about 60% of my landscape photos with that lens because of the sharpness. The other 40% is done with my Nikon 20mm f/2.8, which is just as sharp.
Here are a few photo examples for you. The first I shot with the aperture wide open at f/1.8 about 30 minutes after sunset...and I did it handheld!
This one shows just how sharp the lens can be. I posted this one yesterday and you just can't get any better than that!
@jasonbarnette Wow, I loved the one from yesterday! I'm so happy to see that some of your amazing photos are with this little lens. Finally gonna be a sunny warm weekend in Dallas, I'm anxious to get outside and play with my new toy!! Thanks for replying :)
@sdpace This really should be every photographer's first lens purchase. My first purchase was actually the Tamron 24-75mm f/2.8, but I love my Nikon even more.
You'll really find this lens handy for sunrise/sunset, street photography, and portraits. Though I'll warn with portraits: it becomes difficult to frame when shooting more than one person. Found that out the hard way!
@sdpace oh yes this is one of the best lenses i have held in my hand (not that there were many). it doesn't AF on my camera (lowly D3000) but it stays on there most of the time nowadays since my father-in-law lent it to me a couple of months ago. :) my "wife shots" were taken using this lens, focused manually. :)
Bought this lens a few months ago and I'm now using it as much as I do my favourite 100mm macro lens. I really love the low light shots I can take... inside a market or bar, or in the evening light. I sometimes find that I'll snap it into manual focus mode anyway, as the auto focus sometimes goes a bit wonky with my D70.
i think i will be saving for one of these after hearing everyone rave about them, i believe it won't auto focus on my d40 but i quite like the challenge of manual anyway and use it as much as i can
