How do you upload an HDR photo?

February 18th, 2011
I am sure I saw something like this before but I can't find it now.
I took some photo's and decided to play around with the HDR function. I am using PS (CS4) with Windows 7. I came up with an image I really like but I cannot get it to upload here. It shows up when I get into the pictures folder but not when I go to upload on here and click browse. I have saved it as every file extension PS gives me and I still can't see it here. Ideas? Suggestions? Fixes?

@brumbe @robd57 @nellycious @mrjuggles Thank you for all the help. I went in and found that I had to go to Image and then Mode and change it to 8 bits/channel from 32 bits/channel. Then I had to save as .jpeg I really mean it when I say thank you, I was stumped and you all helped me out. If anyone else searches this thread, you have helped them out too! Here is the link in case you want to see the results... nothing special, but its mine and it came out the way I envisioned it so I count it as a success.

A few ideas.

Are you saving it as a .jpg or in another format?
Have you tired opening it up in Picasa from Google (free photo software) and then seeing if you can email it from there.
Have you tried emailing it to your page, which sometimes I have better luck at.
My iphone that has HDR, does it automatically, so I am fresh out of ideas.

If you've saved it as a jpeg, it should upload fine. Check that the image has been flattened, ie: no layers. If not, try a "save as- jpeg" and change the filename, you should get a prompt to flatten the image, that should do it. I'm running CS5, but I'm sure CS4 works the same way.

@brumbe my copy of PS doesn't allow me to save as .jpg, that was my first thought... I have not tried picasa, will have to try that.
I tried emailing a different pic to my page and it didn't show up. I have seen threads addressing that, I will have to investigate that further if nothing else works. Thank you for the ideas, anything helps.

@robd57 I am pretty sure that the image is flattened, but I will have to go check. I will check the save-as again, but the drop down menu for extensions doesn't have a .jpeg option. I am not very versed in PS so maybe I am not doing something right somewhere before... I opened the pic, clicked the HDR option under Edit or Image(I can't remember right now) and it opened a dialog box asking me to select the photo's. I picked 5 and then clicked ok. It took a bit and then an image opened. I played around with it and saved it. After I figured out I couldn't upload, I tried saving it as the other extensions in the drop down and nothing.... Did I do something wrong?

@all71s under the Image > Mode > check if it's in 8-bit...chances are, it's in 16-bit mode, just turn it back to 8-bit and try to save again...

@nellycious Thanks, I will try that today!

I found with my photoshop if I pressed ctrl-shift-S it wouldn't let me save as jpg either, but if I accessed it via the File menu and then click "save as" it lets me save as .jpg
I have no idea why it does that and it may be different for you, but it's worth a shot.

@mrjuggles I always forget about the shortcuts, so I go the long way and click File, save as, etc. So I don't think that is it, however that is good information to know. Thank you
