Shooting a Golf Tourney

October 25th, 2011
I've been asked to take candid photos for a golf tournament. Since I have never even played golf or been on a golf course before, does anyone have any suggestions for me? I'm thinking I should maybe station myself around one or two holes so that I can make sure to get all the groups participating, but don't know if that's a good idea or not? Any other (or better) ideas of what I can do?
Thanks in advance :)

Wish I could help you, Suz. I've never shot this before. I shot my son's lessons ... but that's a bit different!

i would talk to a few golfers in the area and get their thoughts

Is this a competitive event or a corporate one? Is it important to get a photo of every group/person participating?

I think your idea of stationing yourself around 1 or 2 holes is a good one - particularly if the course has a signature hole that is great for photographs. Otherwise you can ask the course for a golf cart so you move around a bit to get different views - I think this depends on what your client wants and why I ask what type of event this is.

@terek55 it's closer than anything I have ever done :)

@cchambers good idea. and I definitely want to talk to the event co-ordinator to see what she is looking for

@chriswang I'm pretty sure it's a competitive event though all I know for certain is that the soccer club I take photos for is sponsoring this as a fund raising/charity event. I'm not sure how much they have advertised this outside of the club either. And that you can sign up as a group or individual. I'm pretty sure the thought is that it would just be a neat addition to have some photos for the website. I'll find out more about that between now and the event for sure.

I had thought about asking for a golf cart but knowing me I would wreck it. I think I've seen too many movies :)

Thanks for your reply - it helps a lot
