Cleaning your DSLR camera's sensor

November 5th, 2011
I'm sure this has come up before but here it is again. I recently had an issue with a shadow/dark area showing on some of my images. After a little research I discovered a small piece of lint on my sensor. I thought I may have to send it off for cleaning, well with a little google search you can clean it yourself. Here is a link to some info & also a video. Sure helped me and was very easy to do. I bought a cleaning kit and a bulb type blower at a local shop for about $30.

Oh wow, I'm having the same trouble!! I had been wondering whether I could do this myself but just hadn't done anything yet... Thanks!!

I took mine in and had it professionally cleaned. After watching the shop's owner handle cameras while I waited for mine to be done, I noticed he used an air blaster multiple times. That got me to thinking..."if he thinks that's an important tool to have, then I need to get one for myself." So I did! I bought a bulb air blower the next week!

I use a Rocket blower for "loose" dust spots, but for anything stickier I always have someone else do it. For me, the extra expense is worth it, knowing I'm not going to damage my sensor. I'm not suggesting that people shouldn't do their own cleaning, but be aware it will usually void your warranty if you damage anything.

I've only cleaned my sensors once, I'm quite lazy about the whole thing (I don't often photograph plain things where it would show up anyway). I use Pec Pads and Eclipse solution. It was nerve wracking, but everything turned out.
