Canon Lens Jammed

November 6th, 2011
Hello everyone, I'm really sorry if this is posted in the wrong area- I've never posted before but I think this would be the correct category.

Anyways, today my nightmare happened. I was grabbing my T2i off the table when it slipped. The T2i survived amazingly, not a scratch. But the Lens seemed to be the causality, it is locked between 35-55mm. I was wondering if anyone has some secret or if I am out a lens- It is just the kit lens, but I don't have the funds to upgrade at the moment.

I tried Canon's website to see how much it would be to be repaired or if I'm covered, but the site seems to be broken when trying to file for a repair.

Thanks for reading,
-Chase

You'd need to to send it in - it is a fairly common impact damage problem. If it is the standard kit lens, it is probably going to be cheaper to just buy a new one.

@jinximages Hm, well thanks for the reply! Is there a lens you would recommend?

Depends what you like to shoot.

I always suggest the 50mm f/1.8 - $100 and great for portraits. Possibly the best value-for-money lens on the planet. But if you don't shoot portraits, it probably isn't the lens for you.

Best thing to do is work out what you want to shoot with it, work out your budget, and then read up on some reviews of lenses that fall into both of those. I shoot the high-end glass, so there isn't a lot I can say about other consumer grade equipment, but I have used the 50mm f/1.8 and the f/1.4 and can vouch for both as excellent lenses.

@jinximages @jinximages :))) thanks for your suggestion, i took it today and YAY finally bought myself a 50mm yayayayayyy ... i got the 1.8 ... it wasn't quite as low as $100 :p ... although you can get it for that on ebay from 'hong kong' i just wasn't prepared to have it go through the mail etc and wait wait wait for it, so went to a local brisbane city shop, $125 and it was the best online brisbane price i could find :)

and yes yes i've already used it, played around a bit when i got home ... totally love it, crispy clear too, very nice indeedy ;-))

Hi, I am sorry to hear about your lense, but happy you got a new one lens today. I live in Brisbane too - where did you get yours from, as I have only seen it for $150.
My second question, is how on earth do you start a new discussion thread? I have looked everywhere, but can't seem to see anything. I am sure it is probably staring me in the face, but some hits would be good. Thanks!

@taidster Yeah - we get the "Aussie" tax on everything here. :/ I have seen it for $99 at Harvey Norman though (sales). Glad you're liking it!

@stuckinoz Try Cameras Direct, or Digital Camera Warehouse - should be able to get it for under $120 including freight. And for a new thread, there is a button for it - new topic - at the thread list for each forum section.

@stuckinoz Cameras Direct has it for $99 right now (plus postage - probably about $10).

@jinximages Jinx! Thanks for the tips on the lens...I will check them out tomorrow. I finally found the button, not that it was hidden or anything! I have NO IDEA how I could have missed it, but hey ho, I'm sorted now. Thanks again.
