My first hired session...any tips?

November 25th, 2011
I have my first "hired" session tomorrow and I am so nervous!! I was asked by someone on facebook, after seeing my pictures I post, to take pictures of her 2 sons. It turned into her sons AND her neices and nephew. So, there will be 5 kids total. I told her I would try and see how is goes. I have not put myself out there as a professional in any way, so I am flattered and surprised anyone would want to pay me. But, since it is someone I know I figured I would give it a try.
I am able to have access to a farm and apple orchard and the weather is supposed to be in the 60s. I am just nervous about shooting 5 kids. Any tips on poses, camera settings, etc... Recommended sites to see good examples of group shots? Your own pictures for me see? Anything! Thanks!!

I did a "hired" session for my cousin, who wanted pictures for their christmas card - and I was super nervous - - and it was only my cousin, so I can only imagine how nervous you are for someone you don't know all that well. The only thing I can suggest is know you area (if you're taking them outdoors) and prep for whatever you think your weakness is. So for example, I'm not all that confident with lighting - so I went out about half an hour before meeting with my cousin and just took shots and played around with different settings so when they got there, I knew what setting I wanted for each area.

Besides that, remember to have fun - You take good pictures because you enjoying doing it! Just think of their kids like yours!!

Good LUCK!!!!!

Bring along a second shooter if you're not that confident yet.
