Fire Station No. 12 by dkellogg

Fire Station No. 12

This fire station was built in 1925. It has recently been converted into a 2 unit condominium. I'm a real estate appraiser and inspected one of the units for a sale. The doors on the front are modified into window panels, the storeroom in the basement is a wine cellar and there is still the brass pole near the modern kitchen, which the fireman used to slide down when in a hurry.
Happy to see a new use for a saved and lovely old building. It's a great shot! I used to know a real estate appraiser. Its strange how fair market value can fall below or exceed real value depending on the local market. Then there's the tax value which still puzzles me exceedingly.

@marlboromaam My appraisals are for Fair Market Value, which is the value you would expect if the home was put on the market and sold. It is very detailed with several adjustments made to comparable sales. The tax value or assessed value is a mass appraisal, which includes all the sales in the neighborhood, whether they are comparable or not, and basically gives an average price per sq ft. I receive many requests in the spring from people who want to contest their assessed value.

@dkellogg LOL! I did the same thing several years ago with my assessed value. I can imagine it must get busy for you in the spring. Then there's the value placed on your home for insurance or what it cost to rebuild in case of devastation.
