Petrified

This was once a large majestic, redwood tree. The tree was smothered in volcanic ash millions of years ago, thus preserving the petrified stump. From the Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, Colorado
Its a beauty!!

it really doesnt look that old but what a fantastic feature - is it now decaying in the open air?

@handymaurice I guess it is a form of decay but since it ihas petrified into rock, it is more like erosion from weather.
