Your Children
Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but they are not from you,
And though they are with you, they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts. For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls, For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them just like you.
Kahlil Gibran

And a song I love based on this

Lovely sentiment- but (perhaps its grandparenthood) I am always happy when I see a little bit of myself in them (just a drop or two), after all they did get some of my genes! (o: Wonder-filled shot!

@olivetreeann Oh, I see a lot of myself in them...I kind of read it as you can't 'make' them be like you...I think they will be but it's not up to you.

@edie Had to smile- since I had two boys I knew my children would never be EXACTLY like me! hehe
