Today at work, I was trying to solve an issue, so I went to google for a solution when I noticed the google doodle for the day was celebrating what would have been Alexander Calder’s 113th birthday. I remembered that one of his sculptures was only a few blocks from our office, so that gave me the idea to take a detour on the way home. I wish I could have gotten more of the sculpture in the photo but there were a few things working against me: (a) I didn’t have my camera/wide angle lens so I had to take this with my phone (b) the plaza where the sculpture resides is narrow and is surrounded by construction cranes and buildings (c) it was 107 F/42 C and I was wearing jeans so I walked around for a few minutes snapping shots from some different angles before I just couldn’t take the heat any more.
Alexander Calder (July 22, 1898 – November 11, 1976) was an American sculptor and artist most famous for inventing mobile sculptures. In addition to mobile and stable sculpture, Alexander Calder also created paintings, lithographs, toys, tapestry, jewelry and household objects. His works can be found all over the world. Maybe there is one near you?
really neat photo and i love the background story with it. sometimes difficult camera/ location situations force us to rethink our approach. i think you did a great job!
