The few alone, caught my eye, the butterflies against what was becoming a beautiful night sky. When the Monarchs take flight all around, it's like looking at music, if that were possible. Mother Natures little gifts. I hope they make you smile, plus... three's a charm and four, even more! That is a fourth butterfly hanging at the bottom.
Year 7 on this adventure! I’m especially appreciative of the community found here! I am inspired by everyone; learning from so many. Your shares make...
I'd never thought about where butterflies sleep! This has been a revelation! And don't they look like little whisps of clover leaves dangling from a tendril!
We have close friends up your way...perhaps I'll see this for myself one day...
@Weezilou I hope you do. It's amazingly beautiful and magical. They are close to being placed on the endangered species list so don't wait too long - the rangers may start limiting access. They are here Fall through mid-February.
@Weezilou If you see the photos where they are colorful and some appear to be dull - the dull ones are butterflies that are closed and "sleeping" because of the temperature drop. As the sun warms them, they open up and begin flitting and flying. When they are cold, they clump together and appear to be clumps of dead leaves hanging from the trees - truly magical!
@elatedpixie Monarchs on the Endangered Species list??? I had no idea! I'll google some information about them in that area and email our friends... If we can't make it in time this year, perhaps we can plan an earlier start next year! (We go up to Carpinteria at least once a month when we're in CA)
Just saw your second comment...we must be writing over each other. I'm off to take another look at your photos. I wondered about the lack of color, but thought it was the angle of the light on the wings. Than ks for all the information!
