I'm lucky to live a mile from the water and when the beach isn't overrun with cars, you can find many remains of sand dollars - uncrushed. This shell even shows some staining from the natural tar that will ooze up here and there. I thought the sand dollar would fit for a Sunday. I hope everyone has a good week.
Year 7 on this adventure! I’m especially appreciative of the community found here! I am inspired by everyone; learning from so many. Your shares make...
@cherrymartina@trinda@louannwarren@stimuloog@shylaine3304@amfrumbiddivurd thank you for the visit and kind words. There were a few intact this day, some days it's crazy! Everywhere you look, sand dollars! Sometimes, at low tide, you'll see living ones and if you're patient, you can actually watch them move! Living, they're purple - I'll have to share their photo some time. Thanks again and have a great rest of your week!
@stimuloog They are a type of sea urchin and they are beautiful and vary slightly from the different parts of the world :-) When they die - this is their skeleton essentially. They are my favorite beach find!
@lynnz oooh, I bet they're beautiful! I think they have kind of little holes, in Florida, yes? Agreed - yes, if they're alive I will not take anything! I toss them further out into the surf. I hope you share a pic!
@elatedpixie Yes, the Florida ones have holes. I didn't know they were different in different parts of the world until I read your comment. So cool! The live ones we found were dark, not so pretty. I think my mom used to put the shells in bleach to get them white.
