Souter Lighthouse by ellida

Souter Lighthouse

Souter was the first lighthouse in the world designed and built to be powered by electricity.

Opened in 1871, it guided sailors for over 100 years; and although no longer used to warn ships off rocks, Souter remains an iconic beacon, hooped in red and white and standing proud on the coastline midway between the Tyne and the Wear.
A lovely image Graham, beautiful cloud bands too :)

It looks recently painted too. As a sailor, I am fond of unique beacon markers! Nice shot.
