Red Tarn

Some walks are 'interesting'! This one started with a disaster, but ended well.

My plan was to climb Pike O'Blisco (705 mtrs) which is part of Wrynose Fell overlooking the Langdales. The base car park at 3-shires was full so I drove a kilometre or so on towards Ambleside before finding a space.

This meant a walk back to the footpath, but I thought I'd 'go free-range' and cross the rough land at an angle to meet the path further on. Big mistake! I took one confident step too many and disappeared up to my thighs in a bog! It didn't want to let me go (a little concerning at the time) but I rammed my tripod into firm ground and managed to pull myself free. Boots full of water and trousers soaked, do I go home or press on.

There was no way I was going to sit down in my lovely clean car in these trousers, so press on it was. A bit squelchy at first, but I soon got warm and by the time I reached the summit of Pike O'Blisco, I was warm, dry and knackered.

No matter the descent was fun and keeping my fingers crossed that no-one was following me (because my fall into the bog had also ripped the seat out of my trousers) I returned to the car.

A memorable day out.
Such beautiful scenery Graham. Being temporarily stuck thigh deep in a bog would have been very disconcerting.

Oh don’t mention Wrynose Pass, I have never been as frightened driving over there, thought my car was going to tip front over back! I like this view better. You had an adventurous day!

Haha, sorry Graham I had to laugh. Been there, done that. Yes, I am sure it's far quicker this way. I've had some quite interesting "excursions".
You might want to nip back to my Weaver Pier image , and read my comment. but that one was fine.
Lovely image, well worth the trouble to get it.
