Racing around today, it was lovely to stop for a while after tea and try a different sort of photo. This little table is in the corner of my living room, covered with plants and lights and candles and gubbins. It didn't come out as bokeh but I liked the glow on this cold dark night and it felt very peaceful. So tell me - how to get the lights more starry?
Lovely warm tones and such an inviting little corner. Not sure, but you could try a different aperture maybe? For the outdoor ones I've done the lights seemed to get a star effect with anything around f/7.1 and up.
If you have Photoshop, you can google "star filter effect" and find a tutorial that will show you how to add them. Or you can buy a star filter lens for your camera that adds them as you shoot. I've never done either, but that' the results I got when I searched.
That being said, I love the photo as is. Such a lovely warm glow. I wonder if you could improve upon it with a star effect or not?
Hi again Phil. I found a video tutorial on youtube to add a star effect to a photo in Photoshop. I thought it'd be a fun learning experience to try it out. Email me at ckhicks92310@hotmail.com and I'll send you the edit I did on your photo to add the stars. It turned out nicely.

Hello everyone - thank you for your comments and pointers. Christie Hicks kindly took the photo and photoshop-edited it - I'm really chuffed that she did, and am delighted with the results - she has posted it on her companion album for anyone to see what it looked like and how to do it. You can see it here... http://365project.org/christiehicks/companion-piece/2011-11-24
Excellent bit of transatlantic co-operation!! Phil :)
