A Shaggy Donkey Story

Oops a gap - allow me to fill it with a rare-breed Poitou donkey. Now that's not something you say every day!
Here's the story..
"During the first half of the 20th century, the mules bred by the Poitou and the Poitevin continued to be desired throughout Europe, and were called the "finest working mule in the world". Purchasers paid higher prices for Poitou mules than for other mules, and up to 30,000 mules were bred annually in the Poitou region, with some estimates putting the number as high as 50,000. As mechanization increased around World War II, mules became outmoded, and population numbers for both mules and donkeys dropped dramatically. By 1977, a survey found only 44 members of the breed worldwide and conservation efforts have meant there are now around 450." (from wikipedia).

Thank you thank you for calling by - mwah! x
#Hey - into the 700s!! How did that happen? Project 731 is within my sights...!
He does look a bit wild! Shouldn't his coat have been cut like they do with horses in the sumer? Still, it is a great shot.

Thanks for the info (I'm addicted to googling the unknown when I encounter it on here) What a beautiful little creature - he does look very strong and solid - and I love the rasta hairstyle - he'd be very well suited to colder climes!
