Took us about 5 hours to drive up, plus stops, but we were so excited to finally cheer as we crossed the border and arrived in Gretna Green and our B&B for the night. We went out to stretch our legs later, and I spotted this thistle growing at the side of the road in the evening sunshine.
Gretna is famous for its Blacksmiths... (for those who don't know...)... many moons ago folk were unable to get married when they were young except with parental consent. Well in Scotland you could get married at 16, so many young lovers eloped up to the first Scottish town they found, Gretna Green, and married in a traditional ceremony at the blacksmiths. I told the kids I might find me a bachelor before we got there.....!!
So much uploading to do, and so many photos to sort through.. I'll try not to flood your feeds and thank you for calling by :)
Welcome home. Lovely to see you and hope you had a wonderfully relaxing time. A thistle for your visit to Scotland is incredibly apt and incredibly beautiful with that sunshine lighting it up xx
Great light in the first of your "Scottish" shots. Hope you had a good holiday. I know that catching up is a problem as I keep missing days when we go to the caravan. Don't know whether it is best to do a mass post or spread it over a few days
Beautiful shot, Phil ... Love the color and the lighting is perfect. Nice detail, too. Not worried you'll flood my feed. Nice job on this one, Phil. Look forward to more :) .... and welcome back!
Beautiful all lit up. I remember reading in books about Gretna Green. I'll need to keep an eye on you.
