I love this place and was so pleased to take Mum and the kids there when we went 'home' to Sutton Coldfield on Wednesday. We spent the summer of '76 here, coming every day, skipping over the 'forty bridges' to get to this part of the lake where we'd put down the picnic blanket and paddle, swim, chatter in the park. We didn't notice the heat of the 'hottest day' among the trees and water. I wasn't allowed to swim to this little island as I would have been well out of my depth. Funny, it seems just the same today but smaller and quieter - the island looked just a few strokes away... and there are only 23 bridges..!
I'm so grateful for your comments and views on my recent posts, thank you so much. It's been a manic last week with the kids - they are off with their Dad for a holiday in the sun and I will be home alone chilling and doing jobs, and catching up with my favourite site.
Very pretty and certainly a place that would make a summer day just fine! I had the same experience the first time I walked the same route I used to walk as a child going home from school. I couldn't understand how the WIDE sidewalks had shrunk so, and the MASSIVE mountain I once climbed was just an easy hill.
