Quarter Peal at St Leonard's by filsie65

Quarter Peal at St Leonard's

A simple shot today, more of a diary shot. This sweet little church is in Old Warden, another village within our parish - and today it's where Cathy rang her first quarter-peal. The bells were ringing out as I took this shot: they stood by the window at the bottom of the tower and pulled the ropes which are attached to the bells situated by the top window of the tower. Now don't ask me for specifics or detail because, unlike my children, I wasn't brought up in a place where bellringing was prevalent and it's all a bit foreign to me. Today she rang 'plain bob doubles' on the treble in a ring of six bells and I'm told she did it very well. I was outside, listening to it and the cricket on the radio while old British planes flew overhead from nearby Shuttleworth thinking how marvellous to be in England in the summer. (It had even stopped raining).
It was to celebrate 100 years of something in the Diocese of St Albans. If you want to know more about the ringing and have a good brain go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Change_ringing
Otherwise have a good week! :)
I like the framing from the branches.

What a lovely church. Great detail on the exterior's texture. It reminds me more of a castle than a church!

Hi - I'm your get-pushed partner for this week. I've been looking at your project - so many great photos. Loved your rainbow month. I don't think I saw any/many abstract photos. So my challenge to you is to photograph something in your home in an abstract way. Hope that's okay.
