This tractor had to wait for me to get to a passing place in the lane before it could go by me (I was walking). A fleet of them comes into the village each day and over the last year has worn away banks and verges - in places there is a 1' gap between the road and the bank. In the last week, I noticed the bank where the wood anemones flower has tractor tyre marks up it. I'm hoping they survive. You may think I don't like tractors but I do (I'm from a farming family). I just wish they weren't quite so big now.
Like a lot of things now Ann, the old roads were built for a different purpose and our technology is colliding with the old. I think it is echoed around the world in many different ways. Regarding the tractor...I know my brothers and I would have been amazed to hop onto a tractor like this when we were children...could not have imagined such a machine.
I will never forget going to my Uncles in the 70's. he took us around the farm in his new Air-conditioned tractor as we jammed tunes on the radio....He said it changed his life.
Very different to tractors I used to drive!! They are huge these days and the smaller country lanes are just not designed for them. Very difficult when they are damaging the verges but equally they are necessary for today's farming methods!
