July 31 words

Drawer / reward

And there it is , the reward for having climbed up on the ridge!   My writing rock.  I'm not entirely sure when the last time I was here, perhaps last summer?  In the crazy existence I've had over the past year, walking the dogs down on the road was a matter for self-congratulation.  Who had time or energy for bushwhacking in the woods? I'm not sure that the energy required was physical. It was more a matter of carving out time for an enterprise with no overt utility, an enterprise that would definitively preclude all those important tasks I didn't have time to finish.

Objectively speaking, of course, the time was available.  No one should imagine that I ran around the entirety of my waking hours doing nothing but things on the to-do list.   But if you sit around for an hour and a half doing crossword puzzles or reading about the latest shenanigans of the Coronavirus, well, that was not planned.  And at any moment these fripperies could in theory be put aside and the adjacent "important" activities taken up in their place, even if they never were.

But going for an expedition in the woods guarantees that nothing else will be done, so it requires actually making a deliberate decision.   And that takes enormous amounts of mental energy, for me, anyway.   I'm not sure that others have the same difficulty I do with decision making.

So this concludes the little July writing project I undertook.   I decided to print out the entire thing (why? So I can put it in a drawer,  I suppose)    I truly had no idea that 31 mini- essays was a very large number.  It turns out it is quite possible to compose on a cell phone (though perhaps not as easy to edit, as I am finding that some very strange sentences for posted! ), which is good to know since it's so portable.  I think I'll return to regular typing. And to a regular camera.  And maybe even to taking more frequent expeditions up to the ridge.
I like this photo of your private place and have thoroughly enjoyed your writing project! You have a marvelous way with words!

I, too, have enjoyed your project, both photos and thoughtful commentary.

@grammyn @randystreat I have really enjoyed knowing that you were reading these writings. Certainly made writing easier knowing that there was a reader. Thank-you so much for all the lovely comments, a gift I am not really returning these days on 365 but which I appreciate immensely.
