I learned something about exposure here: if it's dark, leaving the shutter open longer doesn't make the picture lighter after a certain length of time. the light is the light (duh I guess I could think about taking a picture in a closet and this would be obvious). The other thing I learned about candles in particular is that a narrower aperture gave a sharper flame.
p.s. actually is taken yesterday; must set the date on camera to be this year not last year...

An outdoor shot of the moon works with long exposure so you might think along these lines. Also take an inside picture with lights off and then flash light on and off over the subject. I did this last year for a low key. That said I love this pic.
