Gap filling! This is where I was born. It was a nursing home after WW2, otherwise I would have been born in a more modest place! These days, it has been converted into retirement flats.
Yes, I agree it is grand. No definitely no title!! The only claim to fame (as far as I know) is a branch of the Lapthorns made the sails for Nelson's flagship over 200 years ago and the "Winston Churchill" in more recent times. A Lapthorn went to Hampshire in the 1700s and was a partner in Ratsey and Lapthorn, Sailmakers. About 20 years ago we met a descendent of this branch and he looked just like my uncle! 200 years and the genes were still going.
