This handpainted, wooden handkerchief box is a treasured keepsake. It measures about 4 inches square and is less than 2 inches deep. It was handed down from my great aunt, my grandmother's sister. Childless, she outlived all of her siblings and passed away a few years ago just a month shy of her 105th birthday. The box brings back fond memories of her.
Nature best teaches how to pray, and how to reverence all the gifts the Almighty has given us. She is like a vast outspread handkerchief, embroidered with God's eternal name, on which we may dry alike our tears of sorrow and of joy; she turns weeping into ecstasy, and fills our hearts with speechless, quiet reverence and resignation. - Robert Schumann
The invention of basketball was not an accident. It was developed to meet a need. Those boys simply would not play 'Drop the Handkerchief.' - James Naismith
I can imagine it must be a treasure. It's so pretty in itself and it has such dear family associations. You've arranged and photographed it beautifully with that lovely lacy handkerchief. Great processing too. Fav for me!
