This is another wildflower that I found alongside a country road. It reminded me of lace and I searched for a lacy wildflower. The search turned up Queen Anne's Lace, Bishop's Lace or Wild Carrot to name a few. This flower does have a little purple spot in the middle of the flower. Can anyone verify what type wildflower this is?
Thank you for your comments on my photo posted yesterday and for comments on this one. I appreciate the feedback.
It looks bit like our Sweet cicely but the flower head is flatter and denser. Must be an American sport. Whatever, it's a lovely picture with the mottled background.
There are so many of these umbillifer type flowers that they are almost impossible to identify from the flower, without the leaves. Lovely though. It certainly isn't elderflower, as that grows on large bushes or trees and the flower is different. Some umbillifers are poisonous, so don't try wine!
@happypat We have elderberry bushes in the USA, haven't seen any in this area of Texas. Each stalk seems only to have a single flower, but the flower looks like a flatish cluster of smaller flowers.
possibly Mock Bishop's-Weed
I'm trying to identify it from a wildflower book I have. Have you heard of www.wildflower.org ? The site has an identification section you may find interesting. I do! :)
