Happy Accident by harvey

Happy Accident

There is an internationally renouned horse festival in town this week, Chio Aachen. We went last night after work and we got to see exactly four horse do this jumping course before an enormous storm blew in and that was it for the day.... The lighting was really challenging to also get a clear shot of the horse in motion. I was playing with the shutter priority function and took a VERY underexposed series of shots of this horse jumping, when trying to recover it (over 4 stops!) it imparted this severe grainyness, and I really think it looks like a 'retro' image. So this was done without a fancy photoshop effect, just take a photo 4 stops underexposed and then try and recover it in photoshop!

Since we were pretty dissapointed with out Chio experiance we're going to go again tomorrow night, hope to get a much better quality shot then.
Sorry to hear you got rained out! This shot really came out great with the texture that recovering the underexposed image created though!

I love those happy accidents, it does have that grainy film retro look to it.

Though you call this a "happy accident", you seem much more cognizant of your settings than I am most of the time... I want so badly to learn more about my camera, but am not currently where I have access to a class. That's also why I said it was nice that you add information to your photos; I hope to learn as I go along. Thanks!

This really *did* turn out beautifully...perfect placement for your action shot and the light on the stile is beautiful.
