Christmas is Coming by harvey

Christmas is Coming

They are well into setting up the famous Aachen christmas market in our square between the town hall and the cathedral. I swung in this morning to document it. In two weeks time it will be filled with the scents and sounds of christmas. And tourists. Ugh.

Sorry upon reflection it seems like I was saying I hate tourists. It's not that bad, but on the weekends our town fills with busloads of people from everywhere, and if I wanted to perhaps head into town to buy some bread or cheese, forget it! It takes an hour to navigate the meandering folks through the market. Although I love our christmas market and during the weeknights its lovely to walk around and have a Glühwein.
Looks nice, impressive building. And bah-humbug to tourists, lol. Bet looks fab with all the Christmassy stuff :-)

Looks wonderful! Even though I will probably be part of the tourist-hive visiting such lovely place:)

I'm sure the merchants aren't quite as hostile toward the tourists as you are!

I was one of those nasty tourists once! Love the Christmas market, wish we had them here!

We actually hope to be some of those tourists!! Not sure about Aachen, but Nurnberg for sure.

I will be looking forward to photos of this event. Then I won't have to be one of the tourists! Wonderful building.

We get a German Market in Leeds, I'll be getting some shots. This looks great, just remembered I've got an Aachen football shirt somewhere!

It will be interesting to see the progress in setting up the Market...I can tell already how wonderful it will be...I lived in Maine USA and tourist season changed everything but did certainly help the economy...
...about my photo...sorry to bring up bad memories for you...I never rode on a school bus...walked...

@harvey Not 100% final yet, but we are planning a riverboat tour of the christmas markets over Christmas. We will be alone for the first time ever at Christmas and didn't want to be home. Also, Christmas markets are NO. 1 on my husband's bucket list. I was there ages ago, can't make him understand what a jungle it is.

Nice shot! and the Christmas market sounds like it will be really cool (minus all the tourists). I'm sad I didn't get to stay in Germany for the winter season.. chance to see some snow maybe and of course the Christmas markets. I guess I'll just have to see it through your pictures (until I can go back some day hopefully) :)
