Anne and I tagged along with Tom into the city the morning of the 24th while he ran some errands we had a few hours to walk around the city. Being that it was before 10am on christmas eve the city was literally empty for the first hour or so, it was really cool. This is the wonderful St. Mary's cathedral where we went to midnight mass later that night.
We really enjoyed the large Wigilia dinner at Anne's relatives place, there was so much wonderful food. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wigilia
I also really enjoyed the tradition where everyone takes a peice of holy wafer around and wishes everyone merry christmas and something good for the next year, while you take a bit of the wafer from them, and they take a bit of yours. With 18 total guests I was left with just a little crumb at the end!
Also the mdnight mass at St. Mary's was really something I will never forget. The parade of 10 priests and a bishop to start the mass, and the church being literally filled to busting with people, every nook and space was filled with people sitting and standing, even the middle and side isles. It was a truly unforgettable christmas eve.
Another great shot! I really enjoy seeing other parts of the world on this project and I can't recall any that I've seen of Poland until now. Thanks for the link to Wigilia, I loved reading about it and the beautiful celebrations, sounds like a wonderful way to spend Christmas Eve and Christmas Day! :)
This is so beautiful...the perspective, the muted colors and especially the pigeons all make for a lovely photo! Sounds like you had a wonderful holiday!
Just come back from a school trip to Poland and it wa to krakow and I recognise this building I do have a photo of it I think I might put it on 364 in the next few days
