Carnival started today, and I had nice time at a party with my friends from work, although we had an 'anti-carnival' party where no-one dressed up and we did not play any silly carnival music. It was a nice afternoon, and I took off early from work and say on a bench for a while trying to get some street shops documenting the atmosphere in the center of town, which this shot does well, the guy in costume, the guys against the wall just hanging out drinking, the mother and child, the other folks in costume. Carnival has a bit of everything.
We are skipping town for the really crazy aspects of carnival which happen this weekend and Monday. We will be meeting our friends from Chicago in Belgium tomorrow and staying until Tuesday, visiting Gent and Ypres. I am excited we will be hitting up the brewery where Trappist Westveltern is brewed, often called the best beer in the world! See you all again on Wednesday.
Hilarious how the guys at the corner seem to be staring at the dude in his costume.
So you're living in a Carnival area? I absolutely detest everything Carnival-related. Will be glad when it's over!
Have a great trip. This shot is so fun - the two guys staring at him seem to be wondering if he really did escape and the mom looks like she's herding her child away from him.
Love this, Steve! I shared this with some students today. It's so amazing and was fantastic to share new, beautiful pictures that are relevant to the current culture!! Great photo, and thank you for affording me the opportunity to share updated photos!

Great shot, it really captures the atmosphere.
