March 1 14 Two Deer

Two deer, part of a herd in the wild places here on the Island of Montreal. This is a patch of Sumac, they have eaten it all up, branches and all. Someone started feeding the herd hay. They are not afraid this long and deep snow winter. I am so lucky to have this shot.
It is beautiful, and they are so camouflaged as well. We have bears that come down from the mountains after hibernation because we are in a drought and there is not enough food in the mountains. They rummage in trash cans and have to be tranquilized and taken back to the mountains. Half the experts say to leave hay for them in the mountains, and half say that is a horrid idea because the cubs need to learn to roam for food. I have no idea who is right.

@cejaanderson My car was ten feet away as well as all the other cars. I have walked these woods with my dogs for the last ten years. I have never seen the deer in the woods except once in the winter,, they were lying by the power lines, basking in the sun. I think feed. I think of the Polar Bears starving due to no Ice and they are hungry and get dangerous and want to eat anything, including people. Complicated story, but these deer, am thinking feed and get them through the winter. I am probably wrong but...
