I didn't notice that it was leaking until the pilot light started going out. By then the rust was setting in. We also have a new additional "feature" with the steam (on the right) rising as the water hits the flame.
We had an appointment to have someone check it out yesterday between 8am & 5pm. The guy got here just before 9pm. Thankfully it's under warranty. We'll get a new one as soon as they order it, it arrives in Indianapolis, and they can find a plumber. We're told it could be a week or more. All that, but the service man was very nice.
@ekeim Thank you. Actually, for short periods of time the pilot light will stay on until the water douses it. The leaking is getting worse though, so I don't know for how long.
