Half Mast in the Rain

The gray clouds made the remembrance more poignant. The empty school make the gesture seem lonely. Even sadder is that I don't know the name of the young soldier for whom the flag was lowered.
I couldn't leave it at that, so I looked it up. It was in honor of United States Air Force Technical Sergeant Matthew “Matt” S. Schwartz who died on January 5, 2012 in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. He was 34 years old. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Schwartz, and their three daughters, Aliza, Emily and Morgan.
